There’s no way around it – if you want a healthy smile, you have to take proactive steps to protect your oral health.
At Reflections Dental Spa, we stress the importance of preventive dental treatments like cleanings and exams because they are the foundation for good oral health.
We provide you with gentle, compassionate care so you can feel confident about seeking dental treatment. When you are with us, our attentive team focuses completely on you to provide you with a dental visit that’s more calming and comfortable than you ever thought possible.
Our goal is to save you time and money by preventing problems rather than repairing them. We believe in educating our patients about the importance of prevention because we would rather see you for a cleaning now than have to treat you for a cavity later.
It’s vital for you to be proactive with your own oral health by following a consistent routine of oral hygiene and good eating habits. Proper at-home hygiene is important, but your prevention plan must also include routine exams with Dr. Thomas and thorough professional cleanings with one of our experienced dental hygienists.
Before we begin your exam, Dr. Thomas will sit down with you for a face-to-face meeting to talk about your concerns. Next, she will do a visual exam using state-of-the-art CariVu technology, which goes one step beyond a visual dental exam. CariVu illuminates your teeth so we can easily identify problems like cavities and fractures without the need for x-rays.
However, we may decide that x-rays would be beneficial. You can feel comfortable knowing that we only use safe digital x-rays that minimize your exposure to radiation. And since your overall health is important to us, every exam and cleaning includes an oral cancer screening. According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, oral cancer is highly treatable, with a 90% survival rate if caught in its early stages.
If you are diligent about brushing and flossing twice a day, you may wonder why professional cleanings are important. The fact is that no matter how well you brush, you can’t get to all the places around and between your teeth where plaque and tartar linger.
During your cleaning, your hygienist carefully checks your gums for signs of periodontal disease and makes recommendations based on her findings. If gum disease is present, a basic cleaning may be all that’s needed. Otherwise, we’ll work with you to establish a treatment plan to restore gum health. We will also talk to you about good oral hygiene practices and answer any questions you may have.
During her exam, Dr. Thomas may determine that you can benefit from the application of dental sealants. Sealants are a thin coating of plastic material that are used to fill the deep grooves of teeth like molars that don't have existing dental work. By filling in these uneven spaces, we can create a smooth surface that seals out the bacteria that cause decay.
Our highly skilled team will work with you to develop an individualized plan of easy and efficient preventive treatments to ensure that you enjoy healthy smiles. We're committed to helping your family enjoy optimal oral health so you can focus on the things in life that really matter!
