Why do my gums bleed more now that I am pregnant? Is dental treatment safe during pregnancy?
We at Reflections Dental Spa know that this is one of the most exciting and precious periods in your life. We want to be part of this incredible journey that you are on and keep you at optimum dental health.
Pregnancy comes with a lot of hormonal changes, causing normal healthy gums to become irritated and swollen. This irritation is often referred to as “Pregnancy Gingivitis” and is exaggerated by plaque and tartar (calculus), so meticulous hygiene measures, as well as increased frequency of cleaning visits with us, is recommended to prevent progression.
We also want to make sure that we don’t miss any dental infections or other issues, which can lead to complications down the road. Any treatment like fillings are usually completed during the second trimester, where you are most comfortable, as well as after all the initial organ development of your precious baby is completed. We defer any treatment that is not absolutely necessary till your pregnancy is completed even though any emergency issues will be dealt with right away taking all necessary precautions.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to call our San Ramon office. We promise to take good care of you and your little bundle of joy!
